....Gate 173, Terminal 1, YYZ

This is the first of hopefully many blog entries capturing thoughts, observations, miscellaneous ramblings, musings, perhaps a rant or two and, I'm sure, the odd digression with respect to our Habitat - Global Village build in Paraguay.
With luck and arm twisting I hope others of the team will also contribute.

Ok....I consider myself a fairly seasoned traveller, to the point where many people often wonder why I don't show any excitement prior to travel or at the airport and all can say is AIRPORTS ARE BORING!!!! and nothing to get excited about!

Having said that, I find myself sitting here, somewhat and surprisingly excited.

A new corner of the world yet unexplored by yours truly, new cultures to explore, new people to meet, work with and, if past practice holds true, become very close to, and a build that will be a bit different than my previous build in Guatemala, creates a sense of anticipation that seems oddly foreign to me.

I'm told that this build will be a typical Global Village build whereby the team works together with one family. In Guatemala, the team was split into two, working with two families, who's lives were devastated by the ravages of hurricane Agnes last May and as such, Habitat Guatemala selected 25 families who's needs were the greatest, for a home that was fully funded with no charges to the families involved.....only a lot of work!!!!
The two families were so grateful that when it was time to leave we knew we experienced something special....so special that it became a tearfest!!
So in a sense, this is like a totally new experience for me.[new corner of the world notwithstanding ]

....but I'm getting ahead of myself.
The actual build does't start until the 22nd and it is only the 15th.
Prior to the start of work, fearless leader Murray, Barb Hamilton and myself will do a little touring around Buenos Aries, then off to Colonia and Montevideo Uruguay, and the Iguazu Falls area of Argentina.

.....so stay tuned !!!!

My name is Dan ....and I'm a citizen of this "Global Village"
